La Plagne ski and snowboard resort

La Plagne is a collection of ten satellite towns and villages that form a backdrop for a vast ski and snowboard area that is now linked with Les Arcs named Paradiski. High altitude skiing and snowboarding ensures snow reliability throughout the winter season and intermediate skiers and snowboarders enjoy the miles of cruising slopes to be found above the winter resort of La Plagne.

There is some fantastic off piste skiing, snowboarding and telemarking to be found if the services of a qualified mountain guide are used. The resort satellite villages of La Plagne are a mix of charming old hamlets and modern convenient apartment blocks that provide something for everyone. La Plagne is truly one of Europe’s top winter resorts.

La Plagne resort ski lift system

La Plagne now forms part of the Paradaski skiing and snowboarding region that is directly linked to Les Arcs by cable car across a deep valley gorge. This has given the winter sports holidaymaker a huge choice that rivals the largest alpine resorts in terms of skiable area.

The full lift pass includes the whole Paradaski area. Nearby resorts such as Val d’Isère and Tignes are accessible for a day trip and are available as a one day extension to the lift pass. A qualified ski instructor, snowboard teacher or mountain guide will let you make the most of this extensive region.

La Plagne, France

The original winter resort of Plagne Centre at the high altitude base of 1970 meters has been transformed from what was a typical 1960’s eyesore complex into a well balanced and pleasant holiday environment. Higher up, Aime La Plagne at the altitude of 2100m is a modern but convenient location, whilst Belle Plagne at the altitude of 2050m has a pleasant village centre. Other connected satellites such as Montchavin and Champagny-en-Vanoise are original alpine farming hamlets that retain a traditional charm as well as excellent tourist infrastructures.

Mountain Restaurants and Apres Ski in La Plagne
There is a great deal of choice when it comes to mountain restaurants in La Plagne and you can eat very well especially in the off peak hours. Just below Aime-la-Plagne is Au Bon Vieux Temps, serving up good local dishes. Also recommended is Le Forperet situated on the piste down towards Montalbert.

The mountain hut of Chez Pat du Sauget is just above the Vanoise Express cable-car station and comes highly recommended. Loup Garou and Le Petit Chaperon Rouge above La Plagne 1800 are also worth a visit. If you want tartiflette and other rustic Savoyarde dishes try Les Borseliers in Champagny.

There is an abundance of places to eat during the evening in La Plagne. Both recommended In Montchavin are La Boule de Neige and La Ferme de Cézar. In Plagne-Centre, try La Métairie and Le Refuge. In Belle Plagne, Le Matafan is a popular choice with resort workers and holiday makers alike.

La Plagne has an active nightlife scene although maybe not as wild as in other winter resorts. Monica's Pub in Plagne Soleil is a busy meeting place after the ski lifts shut down. The action later on lies mostly in Plagne Centre at Jet 37 and in Plagne Bellecôte at Saloon. Le Bleu Night disco in Aime-La-Plagne is popular with a young crowd especially in the main holiday season.
